Sculpin Family (Cottidae)

  • Often called ‘Bullheads’ in British Columbia
  • Most species in family are found in the ocean
  • Typically bottom dwelling predators
  • Lack a swim bladder to regulate buoyancy

Identification Tips:

  • Large head and pectoral fins
  • Tapered body with slim abdomen
  • Two dorsal fins
  • No scales, but may have patches of tiny prickles (like sharkskin)
