Larvae
• Common in protected areas of shallow, rocky, often fast-flowing streams
• Poor swimmers, primarily crawl
• Most are omnivorous, collecting organic detritus or scraping periphyton
• Move away from light
• Some species are present only as dormant eggs for part of the year
