Identification Tips:
• Small clam (< 5 cm) with thick, strong shell • Shell usually yellow-green • Distinct concentric ridges • Flaking may produce white spots • Shell light purple inside
Life History:
• Prefers slow moving, well oxygenated water at depths up to 1.5 m
• May live in fast water or at depths if oxygen is adequate
• Typically burrows but may live on soft or hard bottoms
• Filter feeder
