Identification Tips:
• Large; body usually 20-30 mm; case25-50 mm
• Various species produce a wide variety of case style using organic and/or mineral material
• Top of third thorax segment (directly above rear legs) is mostly fleshy with small areas of harder material Plates on 2 segments in front of it are large and complete
Life History:
• Wide variety of species found in a wide range of freshwater habitats including small springs, large lakes, rivers of all sizes, wetlands
• They collect, scrape or shred plant material or detritus
